What is a cocktail bomb?

A cocktail bomb is a solid sphere (similar to a bath bomb, but edible) that, when dropped into a beverage, dissolves to create a flavored, often fizzy, mixer for a cocktail or mocktail.

Are cocktail bombs alcoholic?

Typically, no. Most cocktail bombs do not contain any alcohol. They are designed to be mixed with your chosen spirit or non-alcoholic beverage.

What are they made of?

Ingredients can vary by brand, but they commonly contain sugars, citric acid, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda, which creates the fizz), natural and artificial flavors, and sometimes colors.

How to Use?

The general method is:

  1. Choose your liquid (usually sparkling water, club soda, or a spirit like vodka/rum).
  2. Drop the cocktail bomb into the liquid. (6oz/ 150ml)
  3. Wait for it to dissolve (often while stirring).
  4. If you haven't already, add your spirit or additional liquid to taste.
  5. Add ice and enjoy!

What should I mix them with?

They are often recommended to be dissolved in sparkling water or a similar fizzy beverage first to help the dissolving and fizzing process. You can then add the spirit suggested for the flavor (e.g., tequila for a Margarita, rum for a Mojito).

How long does it take to dissolve?

Dissolving time varies, but it's usually under 1 minutes, often quicker with stirring and warmer liquid (room temperature or slightly chilled sparkling water dissolves faster than ice-cold).

Are they gluten-free?

Many brands state their products are gluten-free, but it's best to check the specific packaging or brand's website if you have a severe allergy, as they may be processed in facilities that handle gluten. KVIKK cocktail bombs are gluten free.

Can I use them with regular tap water instead of sparkling water?

Yes, you can, but it's highly recommended to use sparkling water or soda. The carbonation helps the bomb dissolve much faster and creates the signature "fizz" and flavor explosion. With still water, it will dissolve much slower and won't be fizzy.

Can I drop the cocktail bomb directly into liquor (spirit)?

You can, but it's not ideal. Spirits (like vodka or tequila) have no carbonation, so the bomb will take a long time to fully dissolve (sometimes 10-15 minutes). For best results, dissolve it in your sparkling mixer first.

Do cocktail bombs contain edible glitter?

Yes, they are edible glitters. include FDA-approved edible glitter (usually a form of mica-based pearlescent pigment) for a visual effect.

What is the shelf life of a cocktail bomb?

When stored correctly, they have a long shelf life, typically up to 12 months from the production date.

How should I store them?

They must be kept in a cool, dark, and dry place (like a cupboard or pantry). Humidity and moisture are the enemies of the bomb, as they can cause it to start reacting and lose its fizz prematurely.

How is a cocktail bomb different from a powdered drink mix?

The main difference is the fizzing and visual effect. The bomb contains baking soda and citric acid, which create a fun, visible reaction in the glass. While both are dry mixers, the bomb offers a unique entertainment and presentation factor.
